"She Needs a Ticket to Wrrrittttee"

By Rachael Dickson   July 17th, 2009 | 7:49 am

I'm a 21-year-old journalist and blogger with a taste for adventure. My ultimate goal is to become a foreign correspondent, though due to limited funds as a college student (at George Mason University!), I have only managed to travel to a few countries in Europe. I'm pretty tough though- I've traveled to four countries alone and would enjoy the rush of exploring other areas.

I would travel to the ends of the earth for a good story, if given the money. So the moment I heard about this contest, I knew I had to enter. In addition to being the most awesome prize ever for a contest, being able to write from Antarctica would launch my foreign correspondence career in a way that nothing else could (except perhaps reporting from a war zone- an idea which my dad seems to really dislike).

I've been interested in Antarctica since I read "Mr. Popper's Penguins" in fourth grade. My excitement for the continent's rich landscape and animal population has only grown since that time.

If I was chosen as the blogger, my posts would be full of detail, humor, photos and video (I'm assuming there are some cameras that can survive the cold down there). As I'm a bit of a risktaker, I expect I would be the girl pushing every limit down there- trying the most unusual or dangerous activities on the continent.

I also have a slightly wacky sense of humor- you could expect to hear at least a few songs written about penguins or the Antarctic landscape. In an alternate life, I'm a professionally-trained harpist with a habit of playing rock songs in bars.

Please consider voting for me- I would be a thoroughly entertaining blogger.
