An Average Guy in a Less Than Average Place

By António Farinha   July 14th, 2009 | 2:53 am

Imagine a place with less precipitation than the Sahara desert.

Imagine a place where the temperature can reach -70º C.

Imagine...

Now why would any human being want to go to such a place? Only seals, penguins, some invertebrate lifeforms and Superman can stand it. And even Superman built his Fortress of Solitude in the Artic instead!

Well, I like to think of myself as a very sane person, but I'm also quite adventurous, and so I can't let this opportunity pass by. Going to a place where so few people have been seems like the ultimate adventure. And the chance to see the funny walk of a penguin in person is too good to be true.

Now you might be asking yourself why should you vote for me and not one of the other hundreds of contestants. Well, I can't promise you an expert insight into the life habits of the animals living there or a scientist's analysis of the effects of global warming on the polar cap. I won't write awe-inspiring poetry about the strange beauty of the wasteland or create the more detailed exploration report of the area ever done.

What I can promise is a down to earth description of my adventure in the frozen continent, as seen by an average person. Because I'm just an average person like you.

I'll tell you how's the life survival of an average guy, in a less than average place. A guy who's a bit silly and usually kind of funny. A 25 year old Portuguese who's not used to the cold at all, which will make everything even funnier. An average guy that will make you imagine exactly how it is to be there.

Now you just imagine that...

You can find me on Facebook, Twitter and in my blog.
