I Have a Chonic Disease: The Travel Bug

By Mélissa Monaco   July 12th, 2009 | 5:04 am

At the tender age of two and a half, I was stricken by a terrible illness: Acute Travelitis (also known as the Travel Bug). Here's what I found in my medical encyclopedia:

"The subject affected by this scourge, and more particularly those who live in moody climates, feels a strong desire to go to places far from their residence. If he or she can not, then frequent visits to travel web sites, blogs or libraries will be the main symptom.

There is no cure for this condition, except, possibly, transient state of "travel fatigue".

Otherwise, the disease, except in extreme cases, does not prevent the subject to lead a normal life. Some victims even develop an increased capacity for empathy with their peers from different cultures, greater mind openness and a better knowledge of the world "

It is pretty obvious I have a bad case of the Travel Bug. I basically work to finance my disease. I went as far as finding a job that sends me abroad a couple of times a year. In between this and holidays, I have my fix of city-trips and short escapes. Of course, it is never enough. I even took on writing on a collective blog for a web travel agency (an excellent group theapy).

princesse-elisabethSo please, help a woman in need fulfill her dream! I was born on Winter Day and dream of going to the Lan of Eternal Winter ever since I could point Antarctica on a map!

And as in Austral summer of 2010, Belgium will make its return into Polar scientific research (thanks to the zero carbon footprint Princess Elisabeth station), wouldn't it be a good idea to send over smeone from this beer-loving country?

Thank you all!
