Hot Wit - On Ice

By Jessica O   July 12th, 2009 | 12:01 am

It makes sense that you are going to choose the funniest, most likeable, most pleasant candidate upon which to bestow your vote. How about me instead?

When I was a travel agent I booked cruises to Antarctica and dreamt that one day I too would embark on the same journey. Until I said “enough!” last year, quit my job and strapped on a backpack, determined to make some of those “one day” moments happen.

In the past year I've backpacked my way from Nepal to the Maldives, Myanmar to the Philippines. I have seen the Taj Mahal, Angkor Wat and Mt. Everest, sipped Chang beer on white sand beaches in Thailand and eaten bugs from street vendors in Laos - blogging the whole time. Well, most of the time. Some of the time I've had too many Chang beers...

But now I have had enough of this heat. I've been in Asia for 10 months and I love it – but the captivating lure and mystery of the least populated continent (trust me – I could use a break from crowded places after 4 months in India) calls to me. It calls to me in kind of a taunting way, because on a $30/day budget it knows that I can't afford it!

I want to set a boot (a boot! I've been in flip flops for so long that I can barely imagine footwear that is not onomatopoetic!) on the ice and breathe the cold air into my lungs and I want to write about it. I want to tell you what I am feeling, seeing and thinking as I experience the most exotic, strange, amazing place on earth.

Trust me, you'll want to read it.

Please vote for me. :D
